How to convert PDF to DOC

  1. Upload your PDF (up to 50 MB).
  2. Click 'Convert to DOC' — takes 5-15 seconds.
  3. Download the editable DOC — ready to modify in Word.

Quick fact about PDF

PDF preserves how a document looks; DOC makes it editable. Converting to DOC extracts text, images, and layout into a format you can open, edit, and re-save in Word 97-2003.

Why convert PDF to DOC?

PDFs are perfect for distribution but hard to edit — they lock layout and don't expose text as a live format. Converting PDF to DOC gives you a fully editable Word document where you can change text, replace images, and re-save. DOC is specifically useful when the destination system or user still operates in Word 97-2003 or legacy Word-compatible tools.

Technical details

Input format PDF
Output format DOC (Word 97-2003 binary)
Text extraction Full with basic formatting
Images Extracted at original resolution
Tables Approximated
Engine LibreOffice headless (PDF import)
Max file size 50 MB per file
File retention Auto-deleted after conversion

How the conversion works

The converter uses LibreOffice headless with a PDF-import pipeline to extract text runs, images, and layout hints from the PDF, then re-saves them in the DOC binary format. Text becomes editable, images are embedded, and page structure is approximated.

When to convert PDF to DOC

Quality considerations

PDF → DOC conversion quality depends on the source. Text-based PDFs (created from Word, Google Docs, etc.) convert very well. Scanned PDFs (image-based) require OCR first — our converter extracts images but does not OCR text. Complex layouts may need manual cleanup.

Common problems and fixes

Output DOC has garbled text
The PDF is likely a scanned image. Run OCR first (Adobe Acrobat, Tesseract, or online OCR tools).
Images are missing
Some PDFs embed images in unusual ways. Try a different PDF or extract images separately.
Layout is different from the PDF
PDF is fixed-layout; DOC is editable and reflowable. Complex layouts may need manual cleanup.
Fonts look different
The PDF used fonts not available on the conversion server. Metric-compatible substitutes preserve layout.
