How to convert SVG to PNG

  1. Upload one or more SVG files (up to 50 MB total).
  2. Choose the output resolution — 512px, 1024px, 2048px, or 4096px on the longest edge.
  3. Click 'Convert to PNG' — conversion finishes in under 2 seconds per file.
  4. Download PNG files individually, or grab all converted images as a ZIP.

Quick fact about SVG

SVG is resolution-independent — one SVG file renders at any size without quality loss. Converting SVG to PNG fixes the image at a specific pixel resolution, which is why the output size choice matters and cannot be changed later.

Why convert SVG to PNG?

SVG works everywhere modern — browsers, design tools, and most web platforms. But some applications cannot render SVG: Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) treats it inconsistently, older email clients reject it, and many content management systems and marketplaces only accept raster images. Converting SVG to PNG creates a fixed-resolution image that works in every context — browsers, emails, documents, forms, and marketplaces. The trade-off is that the PNG cannot be resized later without losing quality.

SVG vs PNG

Attribute SVG PNG
Data model Vector (mathematical paths) Raster (pixel grid)
File extension .svg .png
Resolution Resolution-independent Fixed at output size
Scalability Scales to any size without loss Lossless resize only at integer multiples
Compression XML text (often gzip'd) DEFLATE (lossless)
Animation Supported (SMIL/CSS/JS) Not supported (use APNG)
Editing Editable in Illustrator, Figma, Inkscape Editable in any raster image editor
Compatibility All modern browsers, design tools Universal — every OS since 1996

Technical details

Input format SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics)
Output format PNG (Portable Network Graphics)
Rasterizer CairoSVG
Output resolutions 512px, 1024px, 2048px, 4096px (longest edge)
Transparency Preserved (8-bit alpha)
Max file size 50 MB per SVG file
Batch processing Supported
SVG features supported Paths, shapes, text, filters, gradients, embedded fonts
File retention Auto-deleted after conversion

How the conversion works

The converter parses the SVG XML, resolves the vector paths, shapes, and text into a mathematical model, then rasterizes it at the chosen output resolution using CairoSVG. The result is written as a PNG with 8-bit alpha. Because SVG has no intrinsic pixel dimensions, the output size you select is the actual pixel grid of the PNG — pixels are rendered, not upscaled.

When to convert SVG to PNG

Quality considerations

SVG to PNG conversion is lossless in both directions: the SVG is rendered at your chosen resolution without any lossy compression, and PNG stores the result losslessly. Unlike SVG → JPG, there is no quality loss beyond the inherent resolution cap. If you convert to PNG at 2048px and later need a 4096px version, re-convert from the original SVG — do not upscale the PNG.

Common problems and fixes

PNG looks blurry compared to the SVG
The PNG output size is too small for how it will be displayed. Re-convert from the SVG at a higher resolution (e.g. 2048px or 4096px instead of 512px). Never upscale a PNG — always re-convert from the original SVG.
Some SVG text renders with a different font
If the SVG references a system font that is not installed on our server, a fallback font is used. Convert the text to paths in your SVG editor before converting, or embed the font in the SVG file.
SVG filters look different after conversion
SVG filter effects (blur, shadow, displacement) are rendered by CairoSVG, which may produce slightly different results from your design tool. For critical designs, test the conversion first and adjust the SVG if needed.

Frequently asked questions

What resolution should I choose for PNG output? +
It depends on the display target. For web use, export at 2x the CSS display size (e.g. 1024px for a 512px display slot). For print, export at 2-4x the print size in pixels. For general-purpose use, 2048px is a safe default.
Does SVG to PNG lose quality? +
No. SVG is vector-based and PNG is lossless raster — the conversion is quality-preserving. The only limitation is that the PNG is fixed at one resolution; if you need a larger version later, re-convert from the SVG rather than upscaling the PNG.
Does PNG support transparency from SVG? +
Yes. PNG supports 8-bit alpha, and any transparent areas in the SVG remain transparent in the PNG output. The background of the PNG is transparent by default.
Can I convert animated SVG to PNG? +
No. PNG is a static format. Animated SVG (SMIL, CSS animations, or JS-driven) is converted using the first static frame. For animation, use APNG, WebP, or GIF instead.
What SVG features are supported? +
Paths, shapes (rectangles, circles, polygons), text, gradients, filters (blur, drop-shadow), clip paths, masks, and embedded images. The converter uses CairoSVG which implements SVG 1.1 (excluding animation and JavaScript).
Is SVG smaller than PNG? +
Usually yes for simple vector graphics — SVG is text based and compresses well. PNG is often larger because it stores every pixel. For simple icons, the SVG might be 2-5 KB while a 1024px PNG is 30-80 KB.
Can I batch-convert multiple SVG files? +
Yes. Upload multiple SVG files (up to 50 MB total) in one session. PNG outputs are delivered as a single ZIP download.
